Quick answer
The best time to visit the Egyptian Red Sea is March to May and September to November, when days are warm and sunny, the sea is comfortable and the heat is manageable. Winter is mild and good for sightseeing, and summer is very hot but offers the warmest water.
The Red Sea coast of Egypt is sunny almost every day of the year, so the question is less "when is it good?" and more "which season fits the holiday I want?". Here is how the seasons compare in resort areas such as Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, El Gouna and Marsa Alam.
| Season | Weather (approx.) | Sea | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring (Mar–May) | Warm to hot, sunny | Comfortable and warming | Beach, snorkelling, diving, all-round holidays |
| Summer (Jun–Aug) | Very hot and dry, often above 35°C inland | Warmest of the year | Heat lovers, long pool and reef days |
| Autumn (Sep–Nov) | Warm to hot, sunny | Warm and inviting | Beach, diving, water sports |
| Winter (Dec–Feb) | Mild days, cooler evenings | Cooler, still swimmable for many guests | Sightseeing, winter sun, golf |
Spring (March–May)
Spring is one of the most popular windows. Days are warm without the peak summer heat, and the sea warms up steadily. It works well for families, couples and divers alike.
Summer (June–August)
Summer is hot and dry, but resorts are built for it: pools, shaded areas, air conditioning and a sea that is very warm. If you love heat and spend most of the day in or beside the water, summer is a strong choice. Plan excursions for early morning or evening.
Autumn (September–November)
Autumn keeps the warm sea from summer while the air temperature gradually becomes more comfortable. It is a favourite for divers and for guests who want warm-water swimming without the very hottest days.
Winter (December–February)
Winter days are mild and sunny, but evenings can feel cool and the sea is at its coolest. It is a good time for sightseeing and for escaping colder climates, and some guests prefer heated pools at their resort. If you want a longer itinerary that also includes Cairo or Luxor, winter is comfortable for touring.
How to choose
- Want the warmest sea and love heat? Choose summer.
- Want balanced weather for everything? Choose spring or autumn.
- Want sightseeing plus some beach time? Choose winter.
- Travelling with children during school holidays? Book early and look for resorts with large pools and shade.
