Quick answer

Tawila Island is a private island of about 5,000 acres in the Red Sea, roughly 22 km (90 minutes by boat) off El Gouna. Its resort, Tawila Island Resort, has 31 units: 16 beach bungalows, 7 over-water bungalows and 7 over-water suites, both with a private pool, and one presidential villa. The resort publishes rates from $850 a night for a beach bungalow, $1,000 for a water bungalow and $1,200 for a water suite; Egyptian guests can book from about EGP 22,000 a night through ReserVella. You reach it only by boat from Marina Abydos, and non-guests can visit on a $50 beach day pass.

Tawila is one of the quietest places you can stay on Egypt's Red Sea coast: one small resort of 31 units on a large island, with reefs and white sand all around and no road to it. This guide covers what the island is, each room type in detail, what a stay costs, day visits, the best months to go and who it suits. Resort facts come from the resort's official website and were checked on 24 October 2026; climate figures come from NOAA records for Hurghada.

What and where is Tawila Island?

Tawila Island (in Arabic جزيرة طويلة, also written الطويلة) is one of the Hurghada archipelago islands in the northern Red Sea. It covers about 5,000 acres (about 20 km²) and lies about 22 km off El Gouna and 36 km from Hurghada: around 90 minutes by boat from El Gouna and about 2 hours from Hurghada. The island has coral reefs, mangroves, sandy shores and rock formations, and the resort lists birds such as the Sooty Falcon and the Brown Booby.

Do not confuse the island with "Tawila" in El Gouna: that is a residential neighbourhood on the mainland, built around a lagoon. Kite schools also run day trips to a kite spot on Tawila Island itself; that is a day on the beach with the kite school, not a stay at the resort.

Tawila Island Resort: the four room types

The resort has 31 units in four types. All of them face the sea, and the resort lists every room for up to two adults; children follow the family rules further down. Every type has free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a minibar, a safe, a satellite TV and laundry service.

Beach Bungalow (60 m²)

The 16 Beach Bungalows sit in front of the beach, with a sea view, a terrace and access to the private beach. Inside there is a large double bed, an easy chair and a dining area. The bathroom has a bathtub and a walk-in shower. There is an electric kettle rather than a coffee machine. Choose it if you want the beach a few steps from your door and the lowest rate on the island.

Water Bungalow (60 m², private pool)

The 7 Water Bungalows are built over the sea, with a balcony, a terrace and their own private pool. The room is the same size as a Beach Bungalow, with a large double bed, an easy chair overlooking the sea, a dining area, and a bathroom with a bathtub and walk-in shower. This is the room most people picture when they think of Tawila: water under the deck and a pool to yourselves.

Water Bungalow Suite (80 m², private pool)

The 7 Water Bungalow Suites add a separate living room, which brings them to 80 m². Each has a king bed, a private pool, a balcony and a terrace over the water, and a marble bathroom with a bathtub. Unlike the bungalows, the suites have a tea and coffee machine, plus an iron and ironing board. It is the natural choice for a honeymoon or a stay of a week or more.

Presidential Villa

The island's single Presidential Villa is a two-storey house with an indoor lift and its own infinity pool. It has two master bedrooms with queen beds, each with an en-suite bathroom and jacuzzi, a twin bedroom, a large living and dining area, a walk-in wardrobe and a private outdoor reception space. The resort does not publish a rate or a maximum occupancy for the villa, so ask us for both.

How much does Tawila Island cost?

On 24 October 2026 the resort's website listed these starting rates per night: $850 for a Beach Bungalow, $1,000 for a Water Bungalow and $1,200 for a Water Bungalow Suite. The resort says its rates include the 12% service charge, 14% VAT and 1% city tax. It does not state which season or meal plan these starting rates are for, so the price for your dates can be higher or lower.

For Egyptian guests, ReserVella quotes in Egyptian pounds, from about EGP 22,000 a night as an indicative starting rate; guests of other nationalities are quoted in US dollars. How our EGP and USD prices work. Send us your dates and who is travelling, and we reply with the exact price and meal plan in writing.

  • Good to know: pets are not allowed, and there are currently no accessible or connecting rooms.

Can you visit Tawila Island for the day?

Yes. The resort sells a Beach Access day pass for $50 per person, tax included, with use of the beach and pool, a welcome cocktail, a bottle of water and a soft drink. It also offers a higher day package that includes a Beach Bungalow for the day, at $250; the resort describes who that package covers in two different ways, so we confirm it when you book. The boat is not included: the resort's own drop-off and pick-up costs $33 each way, and private boats can dock for the day.

A day visit gives you the beach and the water. Staying the night adds the over-water rooms with their own pools, the spa and evenings on the island.

Getting there in short

Private speedboats cost extra and let you travel at other times. Full details, with flight planning tips: How to get to Tawila Island.

Who is Tawila Island for?

  • Honeymooners and couples: over-water rooms with private pools, a spa over the sea and very few other guests. Compare it with other options in Honeymoon hotels in El Gouna and Sahl Hasheesh.
  • Families: a Kids Club, free stays for young children sharing a room, and the Presidential Villa for larger groups. Rooms are for two adults, and there are no connecting rooms, so larger families usually take the villa or two rooms.
  • People who want quiet: no road, no town and a 90-minute boat ride make the island feel far away.
  • Less suited to: travellers who want nightlife, shopping or many restaurants in walking distance; for that, stay in El Gouna and visit Tawila for the day.
