Marsa Alam lies on the southern Red Sea coast, a few hours' drive south of Hurghada. It is a quieter, more nature-focused destination, with resorts spaced along the coast rather than packed into one strip.
It is popular with divers and snorkellers and with guests who prefer a resort-based holiday with a strong reef element and fewer crowds.
Highlights
Reef-first holidays
Many resorts sit next to reefs, so snorkelling and diving can start from the beach.
Wildlife
Bays in the area are often visited for the chance to see sea turtles and other marine life. Sightings can never be guaranteed.
Quiet coastline
Resorts are spread out, so beaches and reefs are usually less busy than in the larger resort hubs.
